To end this Feminist aspect of my Blog I want to include some topics that have shifted my perspective on women and gender altogether. I have learned many valueable things about Gender and Identity as well as sexual identity and all the hardships that come with it. Society as well as religion is not very accepting to other sexual identities which leave individuals dealing with a lot of the issues FourWomenandFeminism and I have covered. Think about this, a muslim transgender women who is overweight and sexual abused. Think about society and the way her life may be. For example, think about the fact that she probably has no support from her family or religion because of her gender and sexual identity. Also think about the social construct of body image and the way she may feel about how she "needs" to look in order to fit in not only as a women but as a thin light skinned women. Lastly, think of the everyday life she lives, being bullied and targeted with physical and mental abuse from others around her. Including the motherly role, and wife role she is expected to play. There are so many aspects to women and gender studies that I cannot even stress enough that I have learned about. Every single time I am taught about a new issue, my perspective changes a little bit more. My eyes have been opened to a lot more than I anticipated from my Women and Gender Studies class, I encourage all my followers to continue to view the world not as a feminist, but taking into consideration all these barriers different people live with. Society is harsh, but then again; together we make up society.

Talking about rape in class the other day really got me thinking. Women are strong, we have every reason to live in fear however we do not. Does anyone ever realize why women never go anywhere alone, for example women always go to the bathroom together. I also read that men purposely invite women to parties to result in sex. Often women are drugged and in a sexual environment in order for men to have sex with them. According to the U.S Department of Justice, somewhere in America a woman is raped every two minutes(National Crime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice, 1996.) Just some rape statistics for everyone to think about. 31% of female victims reported that the offender was a stranger and 68% of rapes occur between the hours of 6pm. and 6am. About half of all rape victims are in the lowest third of income distribution; half are in the upper two-thirds( Violence against Women, Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Dept. of Justice 1994). I have chosen to upload this video because it is a well known video, and this is a true story. Although there have been comedic remakes, this is a serious issue that is still going on today. Women are seen as weak and that is why we are targeted as rape victims. How do you all feel about rape? Do you think women are targeted because women are weak or because women are "said to be" a sexual distraction/tease for men?

Lets start with an interesting topic; Sexuality in the media. If you havent already noticed, when you turn on the TV or listen to the radio sexual content is everywhere. Although most of the innappropriate songs are *bleeped* out they are still there. For example, songs frequently played on the radio such as Make it Nasty by Tyga, or Teenage Drean by Katy Perry, and even the most popular Brittany Spears's song If You Seek Amy.
Aside from the music aspect, Television has a stronger impact on sex other than porn. Shows such as Teen Mom, movies such as the Pregnancy Pact and Pregnant at 15, also commercials exposing condoms, birth control, nueva ring, the day after pill and so much more are all over television. The majority of this sexual content is aired on channels such as Teen Nick, Adult Swim, MTV, which are not exactly directed to an older parental audience.
Another place the media hits is magazines, billboards, the internet is a major place, cell phones, video games. Have you ever noticed the new released games have a half clothed avatars as characters. Sexuality is everywhere, you may not realize it till it is pointed out. How do you all feel about sexuality? More in depth, How do you feel about sexuality benig exposed as a slander to woman?
My eyes have recently been opened to the world around me. Not in the sense that they were not opened before, but in a sense that I can see things that have exsisted more cleary. I would like to share with all of you a few topics over the next couple of weeks that have to deal with sexuality in the media, woman oppression, feminism, politics, sexual identity, as well as race and class. It would be a great to have discussions and comments on the topics I touch upon.
